A strong Edinburgh cityscape by Selina Thorp, made in November 1989 while she was studying drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art.
North Bridge and the Old Town are reduced to blocks of black, rust, ochre and grey. Dark, architectural and unmistakably Edinburgh.
Born in Leeds in 1968, Thorp studied at Jacob Kramer College of Art before graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1990. Her tutors included David Michie and William Baillie, with Elizabeth Blackadder, John Houston and Victoria Crowe among the lecturers during her time there.
Her work is held in a number of private and corporate collections, including Marks & Spencer Head Office, Leeds United 100 Club, Valvona & Crolla in Edinburgh, Tetley’s Brewery, Burton Agnes Hall and the Finnish Consul in Edinburgh.
